Fitting Up Bolts
Fitting-Up Bolts, often called Speed Bolts, are used to only temporarily align structural steel connections in general construction and building construction applications. These fasteners were designed with a hex head to allow iron workers to apply an open end wrench from any direction, allowing a quicker and safer assembly. Fitting Up Bolts, or Speed Bolts usually have an Acme thread form or a trapezoidal thread form. These thread forms offer speed during assembly and high clamp-load strength. Fitting up bolts always require a nut, which is why they are called bolts, not screws.
