DIN 158 External Taper Pipe Thread Taps by Material, Finish and Size
A pipe tap is a threading tool used to cut internal pipe threads in a drilled hole so that it can accept a threaded pipe or pipe fitting and form a pressure‑tight joint. It has tapered cutting edges and flutes sized to standard pipe thread forms (such as NPT or BSPT), so that as it is turned into the hole it progressively cuts the matching tapered pipe thread needed for plumbing, gas, hydraulic, or other piping connections.
